We’ve been working on decorating the library and want to bring in more ART… of different genres and more color and beauty to everyone’s everyday!!! SO.. We have a display where butterflies fly out of a book and up the ceiling …. Paintings by area artist.. the red hair painting is by Layla Johnson … we have a game table where people are welcome and encouraged to bring their families and play games… and you can see above the game table there is a ceiling tile with a checker board game on it… we have a puzzle table that has become a daily ritual for several patrons and when they are finished with the puzzle we glue them to a ceiling … we’ve decorated several of the tiles.. in Ms Pac Man… Jet Planes.. Inspirational quotes on some… we even have a REDRUM over the True Crime Books… about our beautiful seating area.. we have a gorgeous rain cloud with beautiful blue rain drop crystals dangling…. We love doing our book displays and try to make them colorful and “artsy” as well… you see our giant Easter Basket featuring “chick lit”.. “chick books” and our DYI shelf my husband made us out of an old wooden ladder…. Our library isn’t a “traditional” library… rarely quiet! Its become the social hub of Shepherd and surrounding areas…. Not just a place to check out books and movies or use the computers.. but people come to play games and check out the art and displays and play games and do the puzzles… we have several things lined up for after hours like featured speakers on different topics and we are still doing Movie In The Park (next one will be April 27th) – People really enjoy the outdoor family oriented activities and Movies!!

Did you know that Shepherd Library has an ever-growing Painted Rock Garden? It's simply amazing and you kind of have to see it to believe it! 7th Grade Students in Shepherd gather each year to help clean and beautify their community. When the tasks are done, they are rewarded with the opportunity to "Paint a Rock" and it is added to the garden. Here's some views of this amazing project, but do go by the Shepherd Library and take a look for yourself!
